Athletics Update: Wrestling

January 13 at Fay

The Wrestling Bulldogs took on their rivals to the south yesterday and competed well. The younger wrestlers earned great experience while the upperclassmen came away with several quality wins.

Justin Karas ’11, Chris Zarba ’13, Tomas Alvarez ’10, Salvador Villalobos Ortiz ’11, and Edward Kim ’12 were victorious, with both Chris and Salvador pinning their opponents.


January 8 at Worcester Academy

The Bulldog grapplers won an exciting match against Worcester Academy by a score of 44-38. The varsity members led the way with a combined record of nine wins, three losses and a score of 32-18.

Extremely smart, tough matches were won by Hunter Cochran ’11, Tomas Alvarez ’10 and Edward Kim ’12, with Justin Karas ’11, Salvador Villalobos ’11, Ryan Goodwin ’10, Seung Hyung Kim ’11, and Alex Lin ’11 also coming away victorious.

The younger wrestlers gained valuable experience and provided great effort and spirit, with Nick Goguen ’13 and Napoleon Sylvester ’13 coming away with wins. The guts award for the meet goes to Seung Hyung Kim ’11.


January 6 at Bancroft

Sometimes it happens that teams meet up and they don't match up well weight-wise. Such was the case at Bancroft. Rather than go home only wrestling a handful of matches, your Bulldogs, with good spirit, volunteered to wrestle up so that others could get a mat. Ten out of our 13 wrestlers went up against an opponent heavier and stronger than them.

Against the odds, the Bulldogs still did extremely well, limiting pins, keeping matches close, and even pulling off the occasional upset.

The guts award was split three ways between Nolan Foster ’13, Ho Bin Kim ’12, and Sam Natale ’14. Wins were posted by Nick Goguen ’13, Sam Fishbein ’11, Alex Lin ’11, and Justin Karas ’11.
