January 14 at Rectory
Our rematch with Rectory went back and forth for most of the first half, with neither team getting too far out in front. Down seven points with six minutes to go in the half, the Bulldogs turned up the defensive pressure, ran out a 13-point run, and took a five-point lead into halftime.
The start of the second half saw the Bulldogs continue to apply the pressure causing turnovers and forced shots by the talented squad from Rectory. Coupled with the strong defensive effort, lights out shooting from Kenan Williams 10, as well as physical inside play from Jean Toussaint 10 and Mikol Blake-Green 10, proved too much for the Oaks and Hillside finished the game on another run. Everyone saw time in this very exciting game. Kenan Williams 10 led all scorers with 20 points followed by 17 points from Johnnie Vassar 10 and 15 points from Idris Taqqee 11. Mikol Blake-Green 10 had a very solid nine points and Isaiah Seetram 11 hit two key three- pointers and finished with eight points.
January 13 at Fay
The Hillside cagers went to Fay and continued their winning ways. The Bulldogs squared off against a very good Fay team that battled to the very end. This contest quickly turned into a track meet. Hillside breached the century mark for the first time in distant memory by scoring an amazing 102 points. Every point was needed as the Fay team put up big numbers themselves with 86 points. Johnnie Vassar led Hillside with 31 points even though he was rested the last five minutes of the game. Kenan Williams 10 and Idris Taqqee 11 each poured in 21 points while Mikol Blake-Green 10 hit for 14 points and Isaiah Seetram 11 chipped in 10 points. Everyone saw good minutes on the floor during this very entertaining and fun game.
January 11 versus Worcester Academy
The Hillside Bulldog Varsity Basketball team started 2010 like it finished 2009, with a win. Starting the season 4-0 with wins over St. Marks and Rectory, along with the Holiday Tournament Championship in December, January started with the annual game versus Worcester Academy. Experience and team play by the Bulldogs proved to win the day. Johnnie Vassar 10 led all scorers with 19 points, seven assists and five rebounds. Kenan Williams 10 chipped in twelve points as did Mikol Blake-Green off the bench. Dawson Stento 10 got his first basket of the year and Ovie Ojeni 10 saw a number of rebounds with the second unit. Adolph Kawuba 10 did a fine job running the second unit and managing the floor game.

Adolph Kawuba '10 scores versus Worcester Academy on January 11.

Johnnie Vassar '10 goes to the basket against St. Vincent's during the Hillside Holiday Tournament.
