Students selected as scholar leaders

Thursday, April 23, 2009

Hillside School announced today that two eighth grade students, Kyle Corda ’10 and Tomas Alvarez ’10, have been selected as Scholar Leaders to represent Hillside School at the 10th Annual Scholar Leader Awards Banquet on May 27.

The banquet, which is presented by the New England League of Middle Schools, honors two students from each league member school who have earned the honor of becoming Scholar Leaders based on their outstanding scholarship and leadership.

As indicated by Rich Meyer, Hillside’s dean of academics, Corda and Alvarez were selected by Hillside administrators and faculty for this designation based on criteria that included academic performance, ability to serve as a role model for peers and service to classmates and school. In addition, students were considered on their demonstrations of integrity, honesty, self-discipline and courage.

“In our estimation, both Kyle and Tomas have far exceeded the selection criteria for this honor,” indicated Meyer. “They have truly been exceptional leaders and scholars within the Hillside School community.”

Corda commented that it was “awesome” to be chosen for the honor. “I’m very excited and thankful that I got it,” he said.

Alvarez expressed similar sentiments. “It’s a special honor and I’m glad that I was chosen for it,” he said.

Both Corda and Alvarez will attend the May 27 banquet, which takes place at the DCU Center in Worcester, MA, with members of their family and Hillside representatives.
